Project Overview
In this project we had a chance to show who we are through Writing, Art and Reflecting on ourselves. We wrote 10 paragraph length stories, each using or showing an example of a specific Literary Device in the story. Each story pertained to us and who we are in some way, and after we finished writing and peer critiquing we had to create some creative form of display that pertained to the stories.
Reflection
This project challenged me by taking self evaluation a step further and applying Literary Devices to instances in our lives. I mainly had trouble finding a way to show irony in my life because irony is a very rare thing in the first place that I was a bit overwhelmed when I had to really dig deep to find an interesting contrast in my life. One other thing that was a bit difficult was coming up for a topic in conflict that was different than antagonist because often times my antagonist would be part of my conflict or vice versa.
The easiest part of the project for me was writing the paragraphs once I knew what to base it on. I enjoyed writing about my life in different and creative ways and really getting to write freely about some of my favourite memories and feelings. Because the writing was chunked up into individual paragraphs I felt that it was easier to write than writing one whole cohesive essay or story, I had the freedom to jump around to whatever paragraph I could do easier.
I feel that the presentation of my piece went very well, I felt very comfortable talking about why I chose what I did and I read one of my favourite paragraphs that I was very proud of. I connected the lab coat that I used as the main background to my foreshadowing piece about science and healthcare, my guitar strings transitioned me into the symbolism paragraph that I read for everyone.
I received feedback from classmates on my presentation and I had help from teachers and friends when writing my paragraphs. When we did our first presentation share-outs I got some good feedback about not using too many 'um's in my speech which I know is something that I need to work on. While writing I got stuck in some parts and I asked for help from Mrs. Heller and classmates for ideas on how I could best brainstorm and write moments that connected, for example the characterization paragraph and finding character roles in my life.
During the critique session I critiqued my table mates: Karley and Tray. The two had very good pieces that really went deep into the emotions and history of their lives, and I could really see where they came from and empathize with them. They only needed to change small things like punctuation and grammar but their final products came out fantastic and were very creative.
I attended the Barnes and Noble book fair and it was very cool to see everyone there presenting their pieces. I got to see some of the other creative products that people had made as well as presenting my piece for the audience.
I believe for the most part I used my time wisely in class because I was really motivated to write most of my paragraphs and format my final product. There were times when I did slack off and that was when I encountered a writers block or lack of ideas to use for a specific story, and I tried to stay busy doing other productive things for humanities if I couldn't continue with writing or constructing. All in all I got most of the work for this project done in class and I felt that I was generally very productive.
In terms of grading I think I deserve at least an A. I believe this because I had all of my elements on my final polished product and they all connected very symbolically. I also presented my piece at the Barnes and Noble bookfair and got to exhibit my piece. In addition to this I stayed on task during class time and worked very hard to get the paragraphs refined and impactful in one way or another.
